Kafka Cluster displays metrics, attributes, and relationships for a Kafka cluster. A Kafka cluster consists of several brokers that host topics across a distributed system.

You must add Kafka exporters to your deployment to view this page. See Configure Kafka.

Cisco Cloud Observability displays Apache Kafka entities on the Observe page. Metrics are displayed for specific entity instances in the list and detail views.

Detail View

To display the detail view for a Kafka cluster:

  1. Navigate to the Observe page.
  2. Under Infrastructure, click Kafka Clusters.
The Kafka Clusters list view now displays.
  3. Click a Kafka Cluster Name to display the detail view for the selected instance.
    T
he detail view displays metrics, key performance indicators, and properties (attributes) related to the instance you selected.

Metrics and Key Performance Indicators

Cisco Cloud Observability displays the following metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) for Kafka clusters.

Display NameDescription
Kafka Brokers (Count)The number of brokers within the cluster.
Under Replicated Partitions By Broker (Count)The number of under-replicated partitions by Broker.
Active Controller Count By BrokerThe number of active controllers by Brokers within the cluster.
Offline Partition Count By BrokerThe number of partitions by Broker that doesn't have an active leader.
Leader Election Rate By Broker (Count/Sec)The rate at which new topics are selected as leaders by the Broker.
Unclean Leader Elections Rate By Broker (Count/Sec)The rate at which new topics are selected as unclean leaders by Broker.
ISR Shrinks per Sec By Broker (Count/Sec)The rate at which the pool of in-sync replicas (ISRs) shrinks.
ISR Expands per Sec By Broker (Count/Sec)The rate at which the pool of in-sync replicas (ISRs) expands.
Total Partition Count By BrokerThe total partition count by broker.
Partition Leader Count By BrokerThe number of partition leaders per broker.
Messages In per Sec (Count/Sec)The total messages per second per cluster.
