Amazon Elastic Block Storage (EBS) provides block-level storage disks to use with Amazon EC2 instances.

You must configure cloud connections to monitor this entity. See Set up Cisco AppDynamics Cloud Collectors to Monitor AWS.

Cisco Cloud Observability displays AWS entities on the Observe page. Metrics are displayed for specific entity instances in the list and detail views.

Detail View

To display the detail view for an Amazon EBS disk:

  1. Navigate to the Observe page.
  2. Under Database & Storage, click Storage.
The Storage list view now displays.
  3. Click the AWS tab to display only AWS storage entities.
  4. From the list, click a Disk ID to display the detail view.
The detail view displays metrics, key performance indicators, and properties (attributes) related to
    the instance you selected.

Metrics and Key Performance Indicators

Cisco Cloud Observability displays the following metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) for Amazon EBS. See Amazon CloudWatch metrics for Amazon EBS.

Display Name

Source Metric

Description
Volume Queue Length (Count)VolumeQueueLengthThe number of read and write operation requests waiting to be completed in a specified period of time.
Time Spent Idle (Sec)VolumeIdleTimeThe total number of seconds in a specified period of time when no read or write operations were submitted. This metric is not supported with Multi-Attach enabled disks.
Throughput PercentageVolumeThroughputPercentageUsed with Provisioned IOPS SSD disks only. The percentage of I/O operations per second (IOPS) delivered of the total IOPS provisioned for an Amazon EBS disk. This metric is not supported with Multi-Attach enabled disks.
IOPS (Ops/Sec)
  • VolumeReadOps
  • VolumeWriteOps
  • The number of read IOs performed on a disk.
  • The number of write IOs performed on a disk.
Throughput (Bytes/Sec)
  • VolumeReadBytes
  • VolumeWriteBytes
  • The bytes/sec read from a disk.
  • The bytes/sec written to a disk.
Total Read/Write Time (Sec)
  • VolumeTotalReadTime
  • VolumeTotalWriteTime
  • The total number of seconds spent by all read operations that completed in a specified period of time. This metric is not supported with Multi-Attach enabled disks.
  • The total number of seconds spent by all write operations that completed in a specified period of time. This metric is not supported with Multi-Attach enabled disks.
Consumed Read Write Operations (Count)

VolumeConsumedReadWriteOps

Used with Provisioned IOPS SSD disks only. The total amount of read and write operations (normalized to 256K capacity units) consumed in a specified period of time.
