Configure Google Cloud Platform Connection
This page explains how to configure your Cisco Cloud Observability account with Google Cloud Platform™ (GCP).
If you prefer to use the Connections API, Call the Cisco Cloud Observability APIs and see Getting Started with Google Cloud Platform.

These are the high-level steps:
- Create a Service Account in the Google Cloud Console
- Enable the Google Cloud API for Your Service
- Connect your GCP Account to AppDynamics Cloud
- Add Custom Configurations for GCP Connection
- Verify Connection and Observe Entities
Performance and Scaling Requirements
For performance and scaling requirements, see Cloud Performance and Scaling.
1. Create a Service Account in the Google Cloud Console
A service account is a type of Google account used by non-human users, such as an application or compute workload. The service account authenticates and authorizes Cisco Cloud Observability to access data in Google Cloud APIs.
- Log into console.cloud.google.com using your organization's credentials.
- Create a service account for Cisco Cloud Observability.
- Grant the service account the Monitoring Viewer and Viewer roles.
- Create a service account key for the service account.
- Open the service account key file. You'll need to provide the following credentials later in the Cisco Cloud Observability UI:
private_key
project_id
client_email
2. Enable the Google Cloud API for Your Service
- Enable the Cloud Resource Manager for your API.
The Cloud Resource Manager API creates, reads, and updates metadata for Google Cloud Platform resource containers. This step is required to create the connection between your Google Cloud project and Cisco Cloud Observability. - To begin collecting metrics for your GCP services, enable the related Google Cloud API for each GCP service that you are monitoring.
3. Connect Your GCP Account to Cisco Cloud Observability
The instructions to connect your GCP account are documented on the New GCP Connection UI page of Cisco Cloud Observability. To navigate to this page:
- Log into the Cisco Cloud Observability UI.
- Use the left-hand sidebar to navigate to Configure > Cloud Connections.
- Click Google Cloud Platform.
- Follow the instructions on the New GCP Connection UI page to connect your GCP account to Cisco Cloud Observability.
4. Add Custom Configurations for GCP Connection
The instructions to add custom configurations for GCP connections are documented on the New GCP Connection UI page of Cisco Cloud Observability. To navigate to this page:
- Log into the Cisco Cloud Observability UI.
- Use the left-hand sidebar to navigate to Configure > Cloud Connections.
- Click on your new GCP connection.
- Follow the instructions on the New GCP Connection UI page to add custom configurations for GCP connections.
5. Verify Connection and Observe Entities
- When the connection state on the Cloud Connections page displays
Active
, Cisco Cloud Observability automatically begins monitoring the supported GCP services. - Use the left-hand sidebar to navigate to the Observe page. You can now monitor your entities using entity-centric pages (ECPs).
For a list of the entities and data that can be monitored, see Observe Google Cloud Platform Entities.
Next Steps
Review Connection State
The Cloud Connections page displays a list of cloud connections and their current condition. To navigate to this page, use the Cisco Cloud Observability left-hand sidebar to navigate to Configure > Cloud Connections.
Refer to the connections state for troubleshooting. These are the possible Cloud Platform connection states:
State | Description |
---|---|
Active | The connection was successfully created, configured, and is receiving data. The data collection might have started or is expected to start within the next 7 minutes. |
Configured | The user created a connection and configured the connection. The connection will remain in Configured state until it is manually activated. The data collection will not start until the connection is activated. |
Error | A non-recoverable error occurred, so data is no longer being collected. |
Inactive | The user paused the connection after the connection was created and configured. |
Insufficient license | There are not enough Cisco Cloud Observability license units. Contact customer support to increase your license units. |
Pending configuration | The user has successfully established a cloud connection but needs to configure the cloud service, regions, and so on. |
Warning | A partial error occurred. The data is still being collected for some services. |
Critical | A non-recoverable error occurred for some of the resources. The data is still being collected for other resources. |
Manage Cloud Connections
Once a connection is created, you can manage the connection.
- Use the Cisco Cloud Observability left-hand sidebar to navigate to Configure > Cloud Connections.
- Clickin the connection row.
Select Edit Connection, Pause Connection, or Delete Connection.
You cannot edit the Project ID field. To delete a connection: When you select Delete Connection, a Delete Connection warning appears. You must select Delete.
