This page describes the distributions of the open-source OpenTelemetry Collector that can be used with Cisco Cloud Observability.

Compatible Open-Source OpenTelemetry Collector Distributions

The following distributions of the open-source OpenTelemetry Collector can be used with Cisco Cloud Observability,

Pre-Built Contribution Distribution

The pre-built contribution distribution is released by the OpenTelemetry community. This distribution includes all of the components that are provided by the open-source community. The contribution version contains all the components that are required for use with  Cisco Cloud Observability, but has a larger size compared to the Cisco AppDynamics Distribution of OpenTelemetry Collector.

The pre-built core distribution of the OpenTelemetry Collector, released by the OpenTelemetry community, cannot be used with Cisco Cloud Observability. It does not contain the OAuth2 extension that is required for communicating with the Cisco AppDynamics backend.

Custom OpenTelemetry Collector

You can also build your own custom OpenTelemetry Collector. If you are creating your own distribution of the open-source OpenTelemetry Collector, you must include the following components in order for the collector to communicate with the Cisco Cloud Observability backend:
