The Cisco AppDynamics Distribution of OpenTelemetry Collector is a customized distribution of the open-source OpenTelemetry Collector that contains only the components that are required by Cisco Cloud Observability. This distribution supports receiving data fromOpenTelemetry Protocol (OTLP)sources through the open-source Remote Procedure Call (gRPC) and the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP).
The Cisco AppDynamics Distribution of OpenTelemetry Collector differs from theOpenTelemetry™ community's pre-built distributions of the OpenTelemetry Collectorin that it contains all the functionalities that are required for use with Cisco Cloud Observability while minimizing size and dependencies. This reduces cost and improves security for users.
Cisco AppDynamics regularly maintains and patches vulnerabilities detected in the Cisco AppDynamics Distribution of OpenTelemetry Collector.
Usage
The Cisco AppDynamics Distribution of OpenTelemetry Collector is used for the following processes:
Collects data from the applications that are instrumented using OpenTelemetry Operator for Kubernetes tracer SDKs/Agents or any other OTLP sources over gRPC and HTTP.
Receives OTLP data from the Cisco AppDynamics Infrastructure Collector, Cluster Collector, and Log Collector.
Exports data from applications to Cisco Cloud Observability.
Adds annotations to data as required and batches telemetry data to achieve optimal performance.
Exports data with OAuth2 authentication to Cisco Cloud Observability.
