Cisco Cloud Observability enables you to observe Service entity data in greater detail. A Service is a software module that performs a particular task and can comprise any number of Service Instances.

Topology Flow Map and List View

From the Observe page, click the Services entity to view the Services topology flow map. The Services entities show services monitored by Cisco AppDynamics. The Services topology flow map is a graphical representation of your Services that depicts how they interact with each other and any external systems. The Services topology flow map display varies based on the time range you selected. To view more data, try increasing the time range. See Understand the Observe UI.

The number in parentheses beside Services indicates the total number of instrumented, monitored services. Remote services (for example, databases and external services) may be shown, but they are neither instrumented nor monitored. In the flow maps, interactions represent the connections between active services. Arrows indicate the direction data flows between entities.

The Relationships map displays the health status of entities. See Understand the Observe UI

Click List to switch to the Services List view. Click an Entity Name to view a service entity in greater detail in the Service list view. See Services Detail. You can sort metrics on any APM grid by clicking

To customize the headings you want displayed:

  1. Click.
  2. Type in the search bar or select the column names that you want displayed.
  3. Once you have your custom columns selected, click Apply.

AWS Lambda and Services

From the services list view, you can view the entities related to Lambda by clicking on the entity's name. For Lambda, the type will display Service (Serverless) and the Domain column indicates which domains the entity has data coming from. For example, Serverless entities that has data coming from both OpenTelemetry (APM Domain) and Cloud Connections (Infra Domain) will show both APM and Infra badges. Services that have only OpenTelemetry data will show only the APM badge under the Domain column.

Once you click on the entity's name, you will navigate to the unified service detail view. Along with Endpoints of the selected entity, Metrics from AWS Cloudwatch, and APM Metrics, you can view Lambda Layers, Lambda Triggers, and Lambda Destinations. From the Properties panel, you can also view the Lambda Name, Lambda ID, Lambda Runtime, Lambda Code Size, Layers, and so on. The Properties panel has details of the services and well as Lambda.

If you view the Lambda list page, if the Lambda is not correlated, instead of navigating to the unified service detail view, you will navigate to the Lambdas detail view. To filter by Lambda entities, in the Filter View bar, select or enter EntityType = Services (Serverless) ('apm:faas_service' automatically populates) and click Apply.

When viewing the flow map for Lambda entities, a SNS or SQS icon displays on the entity node. Single clicking on a Lambda node displays attributes on the Properties panel, including AWS Account ID, AWS Region, AWS ARN, Messaging Destination, and Backend Name.
