This page introduces the Cisco AppDynamics Infrastructure Collector and describes how it monitors Amazon Web Services (AWS) services.

The Cisco AppDynamics Infrastructure Collector is a monitoring tool that collects container- and task-level metrics without the need for AWS Container Insights. These metrics are not typically available using the Cisco AppDynamics Cloud Collectors or Amazon CloudWatch. This is possible because the Cisco AppDynamics Infrastructure Collector runs directly inside the AWS Elastic Container Service (ECS) cluster and can pull metrics that are not published to Amazon CloudWatch. The Cisco AppDynamics Infrastructure Collector polls data from the ECS cluster every one minute.

It may take between 5-10 minutes for the data to be polled before metrics are visible on the Observe page, list, and detail views.

In this monitoring method, Cisco Cloud Observability uses the Cisco AppDynamics Infrastructure Collector to collect data from AWS ECS clusters and correlates that data with the underlying cloud infrastructure. The relevant key performance indicators (KPIs) within these models are linked to the application flows that depend on them. This enables you to prioritize investigation and remediation of any infrastructure issues in the business context in which your infrastructure is used.

This method requires agent installation.

Get Started

  1. Deploy the Cisco AppDynamics Infrastructure Collector in Amazon ECS EC2 or ECS Fargate.
  2. Once you have successfully deployed the Cisco AppDynamics Infrastructure Collector, it collects data from the supported AWS services and populates the Observe page with entity-centric pages. You can now monitor the following AWS ECS services:
