Summary

When you upgrade the Database Agent to the 20.5, 20.6, or 20.7 version, the node auto-discovery mechanism fails to discover all the nodes within the RAC cluster correctly.

Also, when you upgrade the Database Agent version to 20.7, the database collector fails to monitor Oracle database because of a permission issue related to V$OSSTAT. The V$OSSTAT object got added in 20.7 for the collector to collect the host level metrics such as CPU, memory, and so on.

Affected Software

This affects all Database Agent versions from version 20.5 to 20.7.

Resolution

  • The Oracle RAC auto-discovery issues are resolved with the upcoming release of Database Agent (20.9). The suggestion is to use the Database Agent version 20.4 to monitor Oracle, which is the latest stable build.
  • Database collector fails to monitor Oracle RAC because of V$OSSTAT permission issues. To avoid this, follow guidelines under User Permissions for Oracle at https://docs.appdynamics.com/display/PRO45/Configure+Oracle+Collectors to grant the select_catalog_role permission for monitoring user, or explicitly grant select permissions on V$OSSTAT to Database monitoring user account.
