Dash Studio (Preview) is a next generation dashboards experience designed to make building dashboards faster and easier. While your existing dashboards remain unchanged in the Dashboards tab, dashboards created in Dash Studio are available in the Dash Studio (Preview) tab. The new dashboard editor tab is available alongside the existing Dashboards tab.
Dash Studio is not recommended for mission-critical dashboards and is intended as an early customer preview.
The new dashboard editor allows you to:
- Quickly align widgets
- Resize widgets on a dashboard by grabbing the edges of the widget with a click and drag to resize
- Select multiple widgets, copy and paste them using GUI controls or using command-C or command-V controls so that they can be replicated on a single dashboard
- Edit widget titles by typing into the widgets directly
- Edit widget attributes like titles, line colors, and labels
- Access commonly used tools from the toolbar with a single click
What's New
This button provides information about the latest updates on the Dash Studio. On clicking the What's New button, a dialog box is displayed with the Show Documentation button. Clicking this button redirects you to the online documentation for Dash Studio.
Dashboard Library
All the dashboards created in the Dash Studio are available in the Dashboard Library. It simply provides a list of all Dash Studio dashboards. You can use the Show My Dashboards Only toggle button to see a list of dashboards created in the Dash Studio.
Dashboard Editor
The new dashboard canvas offers a visually attractive and responsive display in both edit and view modes. The canvas and associated toolbars:
- allow you to easily edit the dashboards manually
- allow widget data binding and editing of some widget properties such as, titles and graph axes labels on the canvas directly
- are architected to enable future functionality such as, repeating widgets and allowing column width lock in responsive dashboards
Edit/View Mode
You can switch between the following display modes to optimise the Dash Studio (Preview) experience:
The default mode for dashboards is the view mode. In view mode, toolbar disappears and dashboard displays to the largest extent possible in the browser window in which it is housed.
The edit mode enables you to edit the content of the selected dashboard.
You can apply the following layouts for your dashboard:
- Responsive Layout
- Fixed Aspect Ratio
The View icon available on the top-right of the screen allows you to preview the dashboard. On the preview page, click the edit icon to return back to the dashboard editor.
The Feedback button lets you submit feedback about your experience using Dash Studio. The submitted feedback goes to the AppDynamics product team.
Auto Refresh Service
The current custom dashboards service has a timer that automatically refreshes a dashboard every 2 minutes (configurable). This prevents a dashboard's data or layout from getting stale by auto updating the screen when needed.
Help Pop-Up
The Help pop-up appears at various places on the dashboard UI. This pop-up provides details about features, concepts, and product changes. Click "Okay, got it!" text in blue to close the pop-up.
