This topic covers release information for the AppDynamics Application Performance Management (APM) Platform version 4.5.x.

The release notes are inclusive. System requirements and all updates for 4.5.0 and later are noted in the subsequent component child pages. See the Product Announcements and Alerts page for all released versions, along with release dates, across product versions.

Calendar Versioning (New)

Beginning in February 2020, AppDynamics will switch from Semantic Versioning to Calendar Versioning for some AppDynamics Agents and the first SaaS Controller deployments.

In March 2020, the entire product suite will use Calendar Versioning to help you more easily understand the length of support, compatibility, and stability of any release. At that time, the documentation site will also have a feature to enable you to select the version of the documentation that you would like to view.

Calendar Versioning Syntax

Rather than version numbers using the Semantic Versioning syntax of x.y.z (i.e., 4.5.18), the calendar-based format will reflect the date of release into the version number. The following syntax would be used instead: yy.m.x

For example, if a Java Agent is released in March of 2020, its version will begin with 20.3.0. Likewise, the first release of September will be 20.9.0, while the first release of October will be 20.10.0. If another version of an agent is released in the same month, the last number of the version would be incremented. For example, if a second version of the Java Agent were released in March 2020, the second version would be 20.3.1.

Types of Release Notes

In addition to the enhancements, upgrade notes, resolved issues, known issues, and End of Life (EOL) notices, the release notes include certain limited-availability releases, as well as security and support fixes.

Controller and Agent Releases

The versioning of AppDynamics language agents is done independently of each other and the Controller. Starting in release 4.5.0, agents are backward-compatible with any 4.4.1 or higher Controller, so you can simply download and install the latest version of the agent without having to keep track of your agent versions.
