There are three different workflows for setting up Network Visibility on an individual host.

Multi-tenant install
One Network Agent, multiple App Agents on the same host
Use this workflow to set up Network Visibility on a host with multiple Java App Server Agents.

Single-tenant install with no app restart

One Network Agent and one App Agent on the same host, no restart of monitored application

Single-tenant install with app restart is the recommended workflow. Restarting the application will give the Network Agent greater visibility into persistent connections.

Use this workflow if all these conditions are true:

  1. The Network Agent will run on a host with one Java App Server Agent (single-tenant install).
  2. The host already has an App Agent installed.
  3. You do not want to stop and restart the application that the App Agent is monitoring.

Single-tenant install with app restart

One Network Agent and one App Agent on the same host, stop and restart monitored application (recommended)

Use this workflow if both of these conditions are true:

  1. The Network Agent will run on a host with one Java App Server Agent (single-tenant install).
  2. Any of the following conditions are true:
    1. The host does not have an App Agent installed.
    2. The application monitored by the App Agent is running in an IBM JVM.
    3. The host has an App Agent installed and you can stop and restart the application that the agent is monitoring.
