The Applications page focuses on the current state of security capabilities across applications, tiers, and nodes. You can control the security setting (with the configure permission) and identify the issues with the agents that are not registered or are inactive.

Top Pane

The top pane chart displays Node counts and their trends. The top pane also includes the visualization of the number of enabled, registered, and active nodes for all applications.

  • ACTIVE - nodes that are active for the corresponding application.
  • SUPPORTED - nodes with APM agents that are registered with Cisco Secure Application.
  • ENABLED - nodes with security enabled.
  • SECURED - nodes that are secured with the Cisco Secure Application policy.
  • TOTAL ACTIVE NODES - nodes with currently active registered APM agents.
  • READY - nodes that can be successfully registered.

Use the filter to select the application or the tier scopeIn the Applications table, you can click the application row to drill down to all the tiers for that application. Also, you can click a tier row to drill down to the corresponding nodes. See View Data Using Search Filter in Monitor Application Security Using Cisco Secure Application.

Bottom Pane

The bottom pane provides the following:

The total number of applications is mentioned in parenthesis.

Field NameDescription
Application

This field displays the list of all applications. Click the flowmap icon () next to an application to view the application flow map in the AppDynamics dashboard. Click this field to sort in alphabetical order. This field changes when you click to drill down to the tier list, then the node list. You can use the respective Search filter for each list view to quickly search the application, tier, or node.

Active Nodes

This field displays the number of nodes that are active for the corresponding application. You can drill down to tiers to view the number of active nodes in a tier. When you drill down to the nodes list, this field indicates if the node is active or not. The info icon () indicates a difference in the number of enabled nodes compared to active nodes.

(For application and tiers) Click this field to sort the number of active nodes in increasing or decreasing order.

(For nodes) Click this field to sort based on the values Yes or No.

When you drill down to nodes, this field indicates if the node is active.

Ready NodesThis field displays the total number of nodes that can be successfully registered.
Supported Nodes

This field displays the number of nodes that are registered with the Cisco Secure Application for the corresponding application. You can drill down to tiers or nodes list to view the number of registered nodes in a tier, or a node respectively. The info icon () indicates that there are security-enabled nodes that are not registered with the agent.

Click this field to sort the number of registered nodes in increasing or decreasing order. When you drill down to nodes, this field indicates if the node is registered.

Enabled Nodes

This field displays the total number of nodes that have Cisco Secure Application security setting enabled in the corresponding application. You can drill down to tiers or nodes list to view the total number of nodes in a tier, or a node respectively. Click this field to sort the number of nodes in increasing or decreasing order.

Secured Nodes

This field displays the total number of nodes that exist in the corresponding application and are secured. You can drill down to tiers or nodes list to view the total number of nodes in a tier, or a node respectively. Click this field to sort the number of nodes in increasing or decreasing order.

Security Setting

The security setting is disabled by default. If you require to enable the security, select Enable. This field displays these security settings for the corresponding application:

  • Enable: When the security setting is enabled for the nodes.
  • Disable: When the security setting is disabled for the nodes.
  • Inherit: When the security setting is inherited from the Controller. By default, the security setting is Disabled. Therefore, Security Status is Disabled for the application.
For tiers and nodes, the security setting is inherited from the parent application and tier respectively.

You can drill down to tiers or nodes list to view the security settings of a tier, or a node respectively. You can also update these settings if you have the Configure Cisco Secure Application permission.

Be aware that changing security settings at one level affect other levels. When you update Security Setting for any object (application, tier, or node), it can affect all the nodes in the object hierarchy (Application>Tier>Node). This happens when Security Setting is set to Inherit for either the object or its parent object.

Click this field to sort the security setting in alphabetical order.

Security Status

This field displays if the security status is enabled, or disabled for the corresponding application based on the security setting. You can drill down to tiers or nodes list to view the security status of a tier, or a node respectively. Click this field to sort the status based on whether the status is enabled or disabled. If you have the Configure permission, you can change the security status using the Set Status option.

You can click the Export button to download the table data. It downloads all of the rows, columns, and related data in a .csv file. A separate .json file includes the following: link to the Cisco Secure Application website where the table is exported from, global filters (if any) applied to the pages, and search filters applied to the columns. These two files are compressed into a .zip file for downloading. The maximum number of rows that can be exported is 10,000. If table data exceeds 10,000 rows you may apply filters to narrow your search, or export the first 10,000 results.

Node Table

The Nodes page includes the following information about nodes:

Field NameDescription
Node Identifies the node name.
Agent TypeThe technical stack of the agent matching the application stack that is monitored.
Agent VersionIdentifies the version of the APM Agent.
Is ActiveDisplays whether or not the total number of APM nodes are registered and active. Value is either Yes or No
Is ReadyDisplays whether or not the number of Supported nodes that are sending heartbeats to the Secure Application service are ready. Value is either Yes or No
Is SupportedDisplays whether or not the number of Active nodes that are running a Secure Application are supported. Value is either Yes or No
Is Enabled

Displays whether or not the number of Ready nodes have a Security Setting value of EnabledValue is either Yes or No

Is Secured

Displays whether or not the number of Enabled nodes are sending security insights to the Secure Application service. Value is either Yes or No.

Security Status

This field displays the security status for the corresponding application based on the security setting. If you have the Configure permission, you can change the security status using the Set Status option.

Last Activity

Identifies when the last activity was detected. Secured nodes send heartbeats every minute.

  • Orange warning icon: indicates dependency report for a node could not be processed for more than 24 hours.
  • Red error icon: indicates that the node could not be processed for more than 25 hours.
Last Dependency Reported

Identifies when the last dependency was detected. This reports secure and active nodes that are processed every 24 hours.

  • Orange warning icon: indicates that the agent heartbeats were unable to reach the service for more than 3 minutes.
  • Red error icon: indicates that the nodes were unable to be reached for more than 5 minutes.
