OpenTelemetry is a collection of tools, APIs, and SDKs used to instrument, generate, collect, and export telemetry data (metrics, logs, and traces) to help you analyze software performance and behavior. 

AppDynamics provides an OpenTelemetry-compatible backend to ingest OpenTelemetry trace data using OpenTelemetry components. The ingested data is processed by the AppDynamics backend and displayed in the Controller UI. This service is referred to as AppDynamics for OpenTelemetry.


Getting Started

To get started with AppDynamics for OpenTelemetry:

  1. Deploy the OpenTelemetry Collector version >= 0.36.0 in your computing environment.

  2. In the Controller top navigation panel, click OTel > Get Started.

  3. Click Generate Access Key. 

    If you have already completed onboarding, you can retrieve the API Key in the Controller:

    1. In the top navigation panel, click OTel.
    2. Under the Access Key section, click Show.
