Cluster Agent

This release includes these enhancements:

  • The AppDynamics Operator 21.12.0 is a major release and is compatible with Cluster Agent >= 21.12.0 only. The earlier release versions <= 0.6.11 work only with Cluster Agent versions<= 21.10.0.
  • AppDynamics Operator release 21.12.0 is secure and the images contain no CVEs.
  • Cluster Agent Helm Charts version 1.1.0 is a major release. It is only compatible with Cluster Agent >= 21.12.0 and AppDynamics Operator >= 21.12.0. The earlier versions of helm charts (versions<= 0.1.19) works with only Cluster Agent <= 21.10.0 and AppDynamics Operator <= 0.6.11.

  • You can now use Cluster Agent Helm Charts to install Infrastructure Visibility. Also, you can use Cluster Agent Helm charts to install Cluster Agent and Infrastructure Visibility simultaneously.

  • You can get the Operator artifacts embedded in the Cluster Agent artifacts from the download portal to create custom Operator Images.
  • AppDynamics Operator Github account will be deprecated after December 31, 2021.

  • You can now add labels to the Cluster Agent pod by using labels in the Cluster Agent Configuration file. See, labels on Past Agent Releases.
  • The Cluster Agent uses the CustomResourceDefinitions API version that is not supported in newer versions of Kubernetes. Therefore, the CustomResourceDefinitions API for the Cluster Agent operator is updated for Kubernetes 1.16 and later to support monitoring Kubernetes v1.22 and later.

Machine Agent

This release enables users to specify a custom JRE location for the Machine Agent on Windows. To do so:

  • Set up an environment variable named APPD_MACHINE_AGENT_JRE_HOME and set its value to the JRE home folder.
  • Uninstall the existing Windows service for the Machine Agent.
  • Unzip the development build and reinstall the Windows service for the Machine Agent. When the service restarts, it should pick up the specified JRE.
  • Restart the service if the value of the environmental variable is changed again.

  • The backend naming of the Azure Cosmos DB is detected as {host}.{port}.
  • The backend properties of the exit type shows Database Account with host and port.
  • The Snapshot properties of "Query through LINQ" call does not contain the SQL Query Statement.
  • The ConnectionString of the Azure Cosmos DB is not shown in any of the Snapshot properties, nor in the backend properties.
  • The following is not supported:

  • The MSI Installer bundles .NET Core agent with the existing .NET framework agent and creates appropriate environment variables. 
  • Supported environments are identical to the previous .NET Agent. 
  • .NET Core versions 2.0 and later are supported.
  • IIS-hosted .NET Core applications are monitored similar to the .NET frameworks configured in automatic mode. 
  • You can configure .NET Core applications in the config.xml file, just as you would configure .NET framework applications. 

You have to manually configure .NET Core applications in the config.xml file in either of the following scenarios:

  • You monitor ASP .NET core applications that are not hosted in process, but are hosted in dotnet.exe
  • You currently monitor standalone applications 

The .NET Agent for Windows supports Azure Functions 3.x and the following:

  • Supports Netviz entry calls for non-IIS applications.
  • Filters sensitive data in environment variables.
  • Reports CoreCLR runtime to the Controller.
  • Includes WCF entry points with the agent's network visibility support, if the WCF service is operating in ASP.NET compatibility mode. If the WCF service is not using ASP.NET compatibility mode, or if the service receives requests that do not use this mode, the agent logs a warning that network visibility is currently not supported for this setup.

You can set the boolean property EnableAggregateExceptionHandling to true to configure the Xamarin Agent to report aggregate exceptions as crashes. When the property is set to false, only unhandled exceptions are reported. The default value is false.
