There are two types of licenses available for AppDynamics Cloud:

  • Paid licenses: "AppDynamics Cloud - Ingest Edition" purchased through AppDynamics or Cisco (entitlements vary as outlined below)
  • Trial licenses

These licenses include a set amount of tokens from which your tenants will consume. Token consumption is based on the following data types:

  • Metrics
  • Events
  • Logs
  • Span

Licenses Editions and Entitlements

The following table describes entitlements for each license edition.

Usage Terms

You must use your tokens within the applicable Usage Term. If you do not use your tokens within the applicable Usage Term, any tokens remaining at the end of the applicable Usage Term will expire. With regards to the "AppDynamics Cloud - Ingest Edition" license purchased through AppDynamics, the Usage Term(s) for the Annual SKU and Non-annual SKU may differ. You should refer to the applicable order documentation for details on the applicable Usage Term(s). 

AppDynamics may modify the Token Allotment or Usage Term provided with each license at its discretion from time to time, or require you to purchase additional tokens for use with new or additional AppDynamics Cloud features.

Overage Limits

You may consume up to 10% excess tokens beyond your Token Allotment during the Usage Term (the “Overage Limit”). AppDynamics may modify or eliminate the Overage Limit on new licenses you purchase. Once you have reached your Overage Limit, AppDynamics Cloud will no longer ingest Cloud Data until you purchase additional licenses.

Entitlements

AppDynamics Cloud - Ingest Edition (1 license = 1 SKU purchased)

The following entitlements apply to "AppDynamics Cloud - Ingest Edition" licenses purchased through AppDynamics. 

There are two types of "AppDynamics Cloud - Ingest Edition" licenses available based on the SKU type: annual and non-annual SKUs.

  • AppDynamics Cloud - Ingest Edition - 1 Million Tokens (“Annual SKU”): 
    • Token Allotment: 1 million tokens per Usage Term
    • Usage Term: The 12-month period beginning on the date AppDynamics provisions its license(s) to you. For multi-year license terms, each anniversary date therefrom is the start of a new Usage Term.
  • AppDynamics Cloud - Ingest Edition - 100K Tokens (“Non-annual SKU”):
    • Token Allotment: 100,000 tokens per Usage Term
    • Usage Term: As stated on the applicable order documentation.
AppDynamics Cloud - Ingest Edition (1 license = 1 SKU purchased)

The following entitlements apply to "AppDynamics Cloud - Ingest Edition" licenses purchased through Cisco.

AppDynamics Cloud - Ingest Edition - 1 Million Tokens: 

  • Token Allotment: 1 million tokens per Usage Term
  • Usage Term: The 12-month period beginning on the date AppDynamics provisions its license(s) to you. For multi-year license terms, each anniversary date therefrom is the start of a new Usage Term.

Trial License

Your Trial License is provided complimentary. You are entitled to a Token Allotment of 150 million tokens per Trial License. Your Trial License is valid for the Trial Period.

Trial Period

“Trial Period” is the 90 day period starting on the date AppDynamics provides you with your Trial License(s) for AppDynamics Cloud; provided, however, AppDynamics retains the right to modify the length of the Trial Period in AppDynamics’ sole discretion. You must use your tokens within the Trial Period. If you do not use your tokens within the Trial Period, any tokens remaining at the end of the Trial Period will expire. After the Trial Period, AppDynamics Cloud will no longer ingest Cloud Data and Cloud Data may be deleted unless you purchase an AppDynamics Cloud - Ingest Edition License.

Trial Overage Limit

You may consume up to 10% excess tokens beyond your Token Allotment per Trial Period (the "Trial Overage Limit"). AppDynamics may modify or eliminate the Trial Overage Limit on new licenses you receive. Once you have reached your Trial Overage Limit, AppDynamics Cloud will no longer ingest Cloud Data until you purchase an AppDynamics Cloud - Ingest Edition license.

Ingestion Exchange Rates

The following table demonstrates how tokens are consumed according to the ingestion exchange rates for Cloud Data.

Data Storage and Retention

The following table describes how long AppDynamics retains each type of Cloud Data.

Event

Each Event is retained for 30 days from the date on which the Event is ingested into AppDynamics Cloud.

Log

Each Log is retained for 30 days from the date on which the Log is ingested into AppDynamics Cloud.

Span

Each Span is retained for 14 days from the date on which the Span is ingested into AppDynamics Cloud.

Definitions for AppDynamics Cloud

“Event” is a structured record of a discrete action happening at a particular time.

“Log” is a time-stamped text record, either structured or unstructured, with metadata that is measured in bytes.

“Metric” is a measurement of a service, captured at runtime.

“Rate Limit” is the maximum number of calls allowed for APIs or for specific operations within the APIs in a particular time interval.

“Span” is an object that represents the work being done by an individual service or component involved in a request as it flows through a system.

“Cloud Data” collectively refers to the Metrics, Events, Logs, and Spans you ingest into AppDynamics Cloud.
