This page provides an overview of permissions for custom dashboards in Splunk AppDynamics.
The role of Dashboards Viewer has permissions that limit users to only viewing custom dashboards. The permissions of this role apply if you do not set more specific permissions for an individual custom dashboard.
Each custom dashboard inherits the default custom dashboard permissions unless you override the defaults by configuring separate explicit permissions for individual dashboards.
Creating custom dashboard templates requires the Configure 'My Dashboards' for Tiers and Nodes permission, which you can set at the application level. See Application Permissions.
Default Permissions
Changes made to the default or custom permissions automatically apply to existing and future dashboards. You can create special permissions for specific dashboards and override default permissions.
To configure default permissions on the Admin.jsp page:
Navigate to Settings >Administration.
Click Roles.
Click Create.
Provide Name and Description.
Click Dashboards and select the permissions that you want this role to acquire.
Select Can Create Dashboards to grant role permission to create new dashboards.
Select Default Permissions for this role: View, Edit, Delete,or Share.
Click Save.
You cannot edit the permissions of the default dashboard roles.
If any of the dashboard permissions in the custom permissions list match the default permissions, that entry is removed from the custom list.
Click Users and Groups with this Role.
Create a new user or select an existing user.
Select one or more options to assign the required role to the user.
You can assign all or remove all the available roles at once.
You can allow the users to share their dashboards publicly (without requiring a login) with the share permission. This permission allows you to control the permissions that a user or a role can acquire.
Enable the Share Permission
You can enable the Share icon on the dashboard after configuring the default share permissions:
Navigate to Dashboards & Reports.
Right-click a dashboard.
Select Share>Share Dashboard.
When you set the share permission to active yet no role with share access exists, dashboard users cannot share the dashboard. You must update all default roles with share=true when appropriate.
